Common Korean Phrases You'll Hear in K-Dramas

The LanguageSkills Team · 6 October 2026

K-dramas are a brilliant on-ramp to Korean — and you've already absorbed more than you think. Here are the phrases that come up in almost every series, with what they really mean.

Greetings & everyday

  • 안녕하세요 (annyeonghaseyo) — Hello (polite)
  • 감사합니다 (gamsahamnida) — Thank you
  • 죄송합니다 (joesonghamnida) — I'm sorry (formal)
  • 괜찮아요 (gwaenchanayo) — It's okay / Are you okay?

Reactions you'll recognise

  • 진짜? (jinjja?) — Really?
  • 대박 (daebak) — Awesome / No way!
  • 아이고 (aigo) — Oh dear / Oh my
  • 알겠어요 (algesseoyo) — I understand / Got it

Feelings & relationships

  • 사랑해요 (saranghaeyo) — I love you
  • 보고 싶어요 (bogo sipeoyo) — I miss you

Notice the politeness levels — dramas switch between formal and casual constantly, which is a great way to feel how Korean speech levels work.

K-dramas teach you the feel of Korean. A real course teaches you to say it yourself.
