Quebec PRTQ French — Which Exam, What Score
Quebec's Programme régulier des travailleurs qualifiés (PRTQ) uses a separate immigration grid from federal Express Entry. French scores work very differently here — multiple exams accepted, and even moderate French opens doors that federal Express Entry doesn't.
Accepted exams for PRTQ
- TEF Canada — accepted, with Lexique et Structure section required for full points
- TCF Canada — accepted
- DELF B2 / DALF C1 / DALF C2 — also accepted (this is unique to Quebec; federal IRCC does NOT accept DELF/DALF)
- TEF (regular, not Canada) — accepted for PRTQ
- TCF (regular) — accepted for PRTQ
PRTQ selection grid — French points
Quebec's selection grid awards up to 22 points for French language proficiency (16 for the principal applicant + 6 for spouse). The grid splits French into oral comprehension / oral production / written comprehension / written production — each scored in points. Higher CLB / B2-or-higher scores earn the maximum points per ability.
Federal Express Entry vs Quebec PRTQ — strategic note
If you're targeting Quebec specifically, DELF B2 alone can be enough — you don't need the more expensive TEF Canada or TCF Canada attempt. If you're keeping options open across federal + Quebec, take TEF Canada (accepted by both) so you don't need to sit two separate exams.
